Illinois State University is proud to provide Redbirds with two job fairs to assist them in finding part-time employment. Career Services is offering both the You Can Work at ISU Student Hiring Event and the Part-time Job Fair this fall.
You Can Work at ISU Student Hiring Event
The annual You Can Work at ISU Student Hiring Event connects Illinois State University students with university departments to learn about and apply for open part-time positions on campus. Held on the second-floor concourse of the Bone Student Center, the event takes place Thursday, August 14 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and may include some departments interviewing candidates on the spot.
Part-time Job Fair
The Part-time Job Fair connects Illinois State students with employers from local retailers, nonprofits, and other organizations that are seeking to fill positions on or near campus. This event will be held Wednesday, September 3 from 2-4 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Prairie Room.
Although part-time jobs may help many students financially, part-time employment can make a larger impact on students than making money.
“As students work in part-time jobs, they develop important transferable skills that are necessary when pursuing their careers, such as communication and leadership skills,” said Natalie R. Alexander, Career Services associate director for employer engagement. “Part-time jobs also provide them with opportunities to explore their interests and give insights into careers that may be a good fit for them.”
Student attendees
Students seeking part-time employment need to bring their Redbird identification card and any other information they may need to complete a job application, such as their class schedule and a list of previous employers and contact information. Students are also encouraged to check out the list of employers attending the fairs on the Career Services website before the events to learn about the organizations and their open positions.
Employer registration
Those hiring Redbirds can participate in the fairs free of charge, but registration is required and is available on each event’s website. University departments are invited to the You Can Work at ISU Student Hiring Event. External employers should register for the Part-time Job Fair. All employers should bring any supplies they may need to the fair.
With over 21,000 students enrolled at Illinois State, Career Services empowers and supports Redbirds to achieve their professional goals by providing resources, experiences, and industry connections.
